” Stress is basically a disconnection from the earth, a forgetting of the breath. Stress is an ignorant state. It believes that everything is an emergency. Nothing is that important. Just lie down.” – Natalie Goldberg
This quote is an excellent depiction of what stress is. Everyone hits that moment in the week where they can’t control the amount of work they have to do. It completely takes control of them and they hit this ‘ignorant state’ that Natalie Goldberg discusses. Now there are several excercises that you can do to handle stress. Erin’s blog on “To Do Lists” on Tuesday discusses the option that most people take.
I used to be a strong proponent of list making, using planners, calendars, to do lists, e-reminders…you name it I did it. My life was straight forward and if I deviated from my list I’d begin to get nervous sweats. Planning is vital to success in this world, there’s no better way to put it. However, people don’t take time to add things to their list that are stress relievers. You never see ‘lie down’ on anyone’s list! Why is it that people’s lists consist of vital tasks but they don’t have time to do things for themselves?
Look at my to do list for Friday:
2. Witty Tweet/Facebook Status
3. Write article
5. Respond to e-mails
6. Continue designs on Newsletter
8. Help out neighbor move boxes
9. Relaxing bath
10. Do a good deed
With just that simple tweak on list making you can deviate from living your life like a robot and you actually get things done not just for others, but for yourself.
